Yuvadeepthi – SMYM

Champions of Faith, Leaders of Change, Pillars of Society

Yuvadeepthi – SMYM (Syro-Malabar Youth Movement) is the official youth movement of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. It brings together young men and women between the ages of 15 and 35 to cultivate a deep love for Christ, build lifelong Catholic friendships, and step up as proactive leaders in the Church and wider society.

While organizations like the Cherupushpa Mission League (CML) form children, and Matruvedi and Pitruvedi support parents, Yuvadeepthi-SMYM bridges the gap—empowering the youth to be the energetic, driving force of the parish today.

The Three Pillars of SMYM

Our entire movement revolves around three foundational life principles that shape a young Catholic’s path.

PillarWhat it Means for the Youth
ParticipationActively stepping into the liturgical, administrative, and spiritual life of the parish.
DevelopmentCultivating intellectual, professional, emotional, and leadership potential.
LiberationBreaking free from modern addictions, societal evils, and fighting for social justice.

Vision & Mission

Our Vision: To liberate and empower youth through Jesus Christ for a just and harmonious society.

Our Mission Statement

To organize, educate, and inspire the young generation of the Syro-Malabar Church to live out their Catholic identity, champion human rights, foster ecumenical harmony, and spearhead the integral development of our communities and nation.

The Historical Journey of SMYM

Yuvadeepthi began as a localized movement in Kerala before evolving into the global, unified powerhouse known today as SMYM.th a spark. For CML, that spark was ignited in the mid-20th century to fill a critical need in the Indian Catholic Church.

The Grassroots Beginnings

Yuvadeepthi was born in individual dioceses across Kerala (notably Changanacherry and Palai) to give young Catholics a platform to express their leadership, faith, and social concerns.

The Global Unification

The Synod of Bishops of the Syro-Malabar Church decided to unify all disparate diocesan youth bodies across India and the global diaspora (USA, Europe, Gulf, Australia) under one banner: SMYM.

Core Operational Domains

Our youth movement does not just meet for prayers—we engage in holistic, multi-faceted domains to build well-rounded Christian citizens.

1.Spiritual Formation:Nurturing the Domestic Church.

Youth participate in dynamic adoration nights, vibrant youth Masses, Bible study cells, and Taizé prayer gatherings to build a resilient, personal connection with Jesus Christ.

2.Leadership & Professional Skill Training:Building Tomorrow’s Leaders.

We host intensive public speaking workshops, media literacy courses, civil service coaching seminars, and financial stewardship camps to prepare our youth for secular excellence.

3.Social Action & Environmental Advocacy:The Church in the Marketplace.

Our members are on the frontlines of social justice—organizing voluntary blood donation drives, disaster relief camps, anti-drug campaigns, and environmental drives like local plastic cleanups.

4.Cultural, Arts, & Sports Festivals:Fostering Catholic Community.

Through inter-parish tournaments, youth camps, and theater/music competitions, SMYM provides a clean, joyous environment where young people build lifelong, healthy social circles.
